Registration for Physics with Industry 2013 is now open!

Foundation FOM and the Technology Foundation STW would like to the fourth edition of this successful workshop that will be held from 18 - 22 November 2013 at the Lorentz Center in Leiden. During this week:
 
'A group of about fifty physicists come together to tackle industrial problems. After a thorough presentation of the problems by the companies on Monday, the scientists (mainly senior PhD’s and PostDocs supervised by a senior researcher) devote the entire week to dissecting, modelling, analysing and discussing one problem within their group and with the industrial representative. By Friday each group presents their solution to the companies.'
 
This year the following companies have submitted a case:
 
Tata Steel: ‘Moving strip stabilization’
Ingenieursbureau Oranjewoud: ‘Protection against fine dust: the line ESP’
Océ Technologies: ‘Electrical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) used in analyzing the liquid penetration in porous paper’
Pamgene International: ‘Peptide aggregates in small volumes – detection and solution’
RGS Development: ‘Advanced solid state materials for thermoelectric power generation’

Talk Elina Locane

Tomorrow 22-5-2013 14:00 in Gerrit's room Elina Locane from Lund University will give a talk about her master project. She is a candidate for a PhD position in the group.

Congratulations, dr. Ciprian Padurariu

Cirprian Padurariu has defended his Ph.D. thesis with me on 18-2-2013.
We did four papers together. Leo Kouwenhoven, Yaroslav Blanter, Daniel Esteve, Leonid Gorelik, Jan Aarts ans Jan Zaanen were the commitee members. Ciprian will go to Grenoble for a post-doc position soon. Good luck!
